Topic for August 2024 - Finding Center - the first of a series of exploration workshops to understand and find our center as men.   Our world today is filled with more noise and distractions than at any previous time.  Most of us carry a pocket computer that can retrieve any information we seek in a matter of seconds from the internet.  It can also be a source of constant advertisements and messaging - all carefully crafted to hold your attention or sell you some product or service.

With so much noise and distraction it can be very difficult to find and stay balanced in your center.  Many men today aren't sure what their center even is or how to find it.  Unless you have been blessed to engage with some wise teachers as I have you may not even realize that you have a center.  A natural place of centeredness within you that you may have known as a child but have since lost contact with.  You are not alone.

Who Are We?

Sacred Ground is a group of men committed to becoming better, more authentic men.  It has been said we are men in spiritual recovery.

What is a Council Circle?

Illuman understands the Way of Council as a communal contemplative practice. It affirms the importance of listening and speaking from the heart within a circle of men. But it also recognizes the circle as being more than the sum of its parts. Illuman wants to be open to the mystery of the Spirit that arises within the wisdom and discernment of the Council. It recognizes that we run out of words in the presence of something larger than ourselves. This necessarily widens the circumference of the circle, extending our vision to a wider community to which we also have to listen.

We practice four intentions of council:

  • Listen from the heart
  • Speak from the heart
  • Be spontaneous and authentic
  • Be lean of expression

We are men transforming men through a power greater than our own

We implement this inner work through:

  • Nature
  • Ritual
  • Image
  • Story
  • Council

There is no experience or belief system necessary to participate.  If you are interested in becoming a more authentic man please join us and see.
